Representing Marokopa Munter at GODZONE
Thursday 13th November 2025
The latest community partnership-sponsored Pursuit team – Katherine Richards, Mike Brewer, Jared Welch, and Kim Sullivan — is eager to represent the Marokopa Munter adventure race at One NZ GODZONE this month.
“We are honoured to be flying the Marokopa Munter flag at this event,” says team captain Katherine Richards. “From grassroots to One NZ GODZONE, we hope to bring the strong community spirit, rugged self-reliance and some good humour that the Marokopa Munter is famous for. We’re ready to get munted, at a whole new level!”
The team joins five other community-sponsored Pursuit teams at Chapter 12 as part of a new initiative by PURE ADVENTURE Charitable Trust. All the teams have been introduced to GODZONE via their own regional community adventure racing events or multisport groups.
Team Marokopa Munter has not raced an expedition-length event like GODZONE, but they do have AR experience.
“We’ve only raced the Rangitikei 12hr all together and myself, Mike and Jared finished the Marokopa Munter 36hr (Kim was in a different team),” says Katherine. “So GODZONE will be our first expedition with this team! Jared started Adventure racing this year. Kim has been racing for several years, and Katherine and Mike completed their first 6-hour race just one month after starting to date, seven years ago. Adventure racing has brought us all together.”
She says the team’s goal is focused on the unknown finish line.
Our plan is to make smart choices, enjoy the ride, and finish our first GODZONE together as friends. We love that adventure racing takes you off the beaten track and reveals new places. We’re looking forward to good paddling in the Marlborough Sounds (hopefully) and challenging ourselves as a team.”
