Inspired by New Zealand’s Movember movement, a team of four adventurers will take on a bold mission at One NZ GODZONE next month to champion men’s health. Brothers Jonathan (JB) and Travis Brown, with Simon Cochrane and Kate Moore, will race as Team Movember Athletics Club in the world’s largest expedition adventure race in Marlborough from 27 November to 5 December 2025.

“We are proud to partner with Movember NZ to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, mental health, and suicide prevention,” says Jonathan Brown. “We aim to document our training and participation in the challenge to support fundraising efforts and encourage others to get involved.”

Both JB and Travis Brown have a deeply personal reason for entering the demanding 650km One NZ GODZONE course this year: honouring the memory of their younger brother, whose loss to suicide continues to inspire their commitment to men’s health advocacy.

“We lost our younger brother to suicide in 2021, and we had always discussed entering a team in GODZONE together. Although that is no longer possible, we are fortunate to have Simon Cochrane join us to complete our team of four.”

JB has competed at Coast-to-Coast before along with Travis and Kate who did the C2C Longest Day, but One NZ GODZONE Chapter 12 will be his first expedition-length race.

“As the team navigator, I aim to keep us on track with nav and assist with carrying equipment. The plan is to contribute across all areas and help guide us hopefully in the right direction,” he says.

Simon Cochrane is an accomplished endurance athlete and World Champion Ultraman.

“Endurance sports can become a long-term commitment, and this will be my first time at GODZONE,” Cochrane says. “Managing sleep deprivation over several days will be a significant challenge. I have experience with demanding events and fatigue, but being active for multiple days with minimal sleep will be a fun new test.”

Whakatane dairy farm manager Kate Moore brings One NZ GODZONE experience to the team having raced the world’s toughest expedition adventure racing event back in 2021.

“In my previous race, my team made some mistakes, such as not carrying equipment to heat our meals, which made conditions tough. We did so to reduce weight, but I don’t plan to repeat that decision any time soon,” she says.

Together, Team Movember Athletics Club’s motivation stems from a desire to honour loved ones affected by men’s health challenges. Through their Chapter 12 quest, they aim to raise funds, promote awareness, and make their friends and family proud. The team was recently featured on The Crowd Goes Wild in a segment by Sky Go presenter Anna Willcox.

Pure Adventure Trustee Richie McCaw says the Trust behind One NZ GODZONE is proud to support the team and the Movember movement.

“I look forward to seeing this team progress forward as they train and prepare for One NZ GODZONE next month. Movember continues to play a significant role in supporting men’s well-being and raising awareness of this important cause across New Zealand.”

Having a team represent Movember at One NZ GODZONE is a fantastic element of the 2025 Movember campaign according to Robert Dunne – Movember Country Manager NZ.

“GODZONE is considered one of the most challenging adventure races out there and we know at Movember that men in New Zealand are facing significant challenges when it comes to their health and the health of their friends and whanau,” says Dunne. “How we deal with challenges is a skill and often part of the solution is our mates who know us and are keen to help but sometimes we are just reluctant to ask.”

“I know during Chapter 12 that JB, Travis, Emma, and Simon will face some significantly tough challenges, and they are going to have to lean on each other to get to the finish line. I’m confident they will do that because like men’s health it’s a team sport where we need each other – we can’t do it on our own, and when we work together, we are stronger, and we thrive.”
