MOUNTAIN MOVES WITH AVAYA

Team Avaya have spent just over two nights high on the Eyre Mountains to complete stage five just after sunrise this morning on Day Five of Chapter 10.

“The team headed up there just before midnight on Sunday night and have navigated an interesting and unique line through those mountains where there are no tracks or trails but plenty of up and down,” says Race Director Warren Bates.

“It’s 56km of real NZ back country and they were up there for about 38 hours. We can see they stopped for a couple of good sleeps but generally kept moving very steadily and constantly for around 30 hours.”

“There is a gaggle of chasing teams behind them like Tiki Tour, No Idea, Top Sport and The Secret Billionaires still up there trying to reach closer to Avaya but reality is once these guys get on their bikes and head into the Nevis Pass the gap will widen even more.”

” We have a blue bird day for some second wind racing today and the really interesting focus is on these chasing teams who have bunched back up together with not much in it between them,” says Bates.” Who will manage to consolidate a 2nd, 3rd or 4th position today – it’s all up for grabs.”
