GZ Pure is the ultimate expedition adventure racing experience. The event is based on the highly successful format of the previous five Chapters of GODZone with unsupported teams travelling approximately 500km across New Zealand’s wilderness for up to seven days. The GZ Pure event represents the most technically challenging adventure race in the World and teams should prepare accordingly. As with previous Chapters of GODZone, teams have limited time to prepare their maps and strategy. Route choice and difficult navigation, along with a whole host of other skills, are critical for success. For those teams who do not make it through the Full Course, a shorter route will expedite them to the finish.

With five massive races now under our belts we felt it was time to showcase the place that has hosted more expedition races than any other – a venue considered the spiritual home of adventure racing. Chapter 6 will be based around one of of the most spectacular mountain locations in the World, one that is synonymous with adventure and excitement. With pre and post-event activities centred around the stunning community of Queenstown, this amazing Chapter is sure to appeal to racers, support crews, fans and media alike.Queenstown’s stunning scenery, huge range of activities and renowned warm welcome cement its reputation as New Zealand’s favourite visitor destination. Surrounded by majestic mountains and set on the shores of crystal clear Lake Wakatipu, the natural beauty and the unique energy of the region create the perfect backdrop for a visit full of adventure, exploration and adrenalin. A resort town, Queenstown boasts 220 adventure tourism activities – skiing and snowboarding, jet boating, whitewater rafting, bungy jumping, mountain biking, skateboarding, tramping, paragliding, sky diving and fly fishing are all popular – though we can’t promise you’ll do all of those at Chapter 6! Queenstown has hosted the biggest events in the history of the sport – attracted to the spectacularly varied and challenging environment that is on it’s doorstep. With national parks to explore, magnificent waterways to navigate, community love of adventure, and the fact that it is such a desirable place to visit, we think it’s going to be another incredible adventure for everyone involved. “It’s a long time ago now but I vividly recall participating in the very first adventure race in the world, the Raid GauloIseS (Grand Traverse) held in the Southern Lakes district, in 1989, and I still feel the wickedly good surges of excitement as we planned, trained, and raced. it remains an experience I will never forget. These races have a tendency to leave an indelible mark on you” – STEVE GURNEY (RACE PATRON)
“WHAt OTHER LOCATION CAN BOAST OF HOSTING THE RAID GAULOISES, MULTIPLE SOUTHERN TRAVERSES AND GODZONE? IT’S REPUTATION STANDS ABOVE ALL OTHERS AND TEAMS ARE IN FOR AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE” – WARREN BATES (RACE DIRECTOR)
GZ Pursuit, in it’s second year of running, takes the existing GODZone concept and makes some subtle changes to create an exciting new racing experience and open the door to a wider range of expedition adventure racers. If you’ve been wondering whether you have what it takes to step up from a 24hr race to GODZone, then this is the event for you. If you want to involve your partner in a support crew role then this is the event for you. If you are unsure of your navigation prowess or would rather fizz through a slightly shorter course then this is the event for you. For some in New Zealand, this event will have a flavour of races of old, with the addition of support crews and a slightly more social feel (in the Transition Areas at least). However, GZ Pursuit retains all the best features of GODZone and is an immense challenge for all.
