A number of Pure and Pursuit teams have been short coursed after failing to reach the cut off in time.

Teams had to have left TA5 headed for the Matakitaki River by 7am this morning to continue on the full course. The river is closing to teams at 6.45pm tonight and not reopening again.

The race was on for many teams to make it in time, with a handful not making the cut.

Eleven teams didn’t make it and will mountain bike from TA5 to TA6 in Murchison before doing the Pursuit trek for stage 8.

Among them are Japanese team 25 Real Discovery, all female team 51 visitqueenstown.co.nz, team 24 Morrison Cars, 46 One Direction, 22 Hot Fuzz and team 11 Earth Sea Sky.

One Pursuit team, 76 Struth, are also short coursed.

Two unranked teams also find themselves in this position – 48 Taranaki Beta Testers and the remaining members of 10 Epic Endurance and 55 CPR Wanaka who have joined forces.
