Stage 6
“Wairau Pelorus”
Stage 6: This could be the make or break stage for teams at or near the back of the field. A long packraft down the Wairau River with decisions to be made about where to exit. Then a massive trek through the Richmond Range (carrying all your gear) before popping out near the Pelorus River. Then some tough bush travel to get to Butchers Flat. Both rivers are dark zoned which may hold some teams up if they are forced to camp. This stage might take some teams a couple of days. Views from the top of the Richmond Range should be spectacular.
